Instructional coordinators, also called curriculum specialists, evaluate and adjust curriculum based on national standards, teacher interviews and the needs of the students.

They may integrate technology into traditional classroom subjects, find a way to bring art education into the curriculum or suggest interactive learning, such as parent-child book clubs.

Additionally, many instructional coordinators are responsible for ensuring that teachers are properly trained in the implementation of any new curriculum.

They may also apprise teachers of changes in state standards and any teaching adjustments they may need to make, according to the South African standards as set out by the Department of Education, Department of Social Developments and other related government institutes
